Invisalign or Veneers: How Do I Straighten My Smile?
April 5, 2023
Often, braces are associated with a certain period in people’s lives—the teenage years. However, there are a lot of people who wind up being unhappy with the alignment of their teeth well into adulthood.
While there are adults who get braces, many people are uncomfortable with how they’ll make them look. Thankfully, there are two treatments that can help busy people who don’t want to compromise their looks to straighten their teeth: veneers and Invisalign.
If you’re trying to decide between these two options, here’s a guide that may be able to help you.
How Does Invisalign Work?
If you want braces without the brackets and wires, Invisalign is a fantastic way to go. These are clear plastic trays that can fit tightly over your teeth, constricting them in a way that nudges them into alignment.
Invisalign aligners are removable, meaning that you can remove them before meals to avoid typical dietary restrictions. However, to feel their full effects, you’ll have to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day.
How Do Veneers Straighten Teeth?
If you’re familiar with veneers, you might be surprised to learn that they can be used to straighten teeth However, if used properly, veneers can address mild to moderate misalignment of your smile.
Ultimately, misalignment has to do with the shape of your teeth in relation to each other, either overlapping with each other or being too far apart. Veneers allow your dentist to reshape your teeth so that they don’t clash, and place porcelain shells on top of them to fill any gaps.
Should I Get Veneers or Invisalign?
While a single veneer is more affordable than Invisalign treatment, a mouth full of them will probably cost more. They’re also semi-permanent, meaning that you’ll need to care for veneers for the rest of your life. For that reason, people who are primarily interested in just straightening teeth are typically recommended to try Invisalign.
On the other hand, veneers take very little time to see results, as few as two appointments. They can also address more than just misalignment. If you’re unhappy with the color of your smile or the quality of your teeth, veneers could be the better pick.
Ultimately a dentist would be able to give you advice tailored to you. Both veneers and Invisalign are incredible treatments, meaning that whichever one you choose, you’re sure to be happy with the results.
