Can ClearCorrect Work on Just One Row of Teeth?
September 13, 2023
Some people are gifted with one row of perfectly straight teeth, while having some crooked teeth in the other arch. If they are interested in getting things straightened out, they might wonder if they can receive ClearCorrect treatment on only the misaligned half. While it is possible, doing so requires some important considerations on the part of you and your dentist. Read on to learn how ClearCorrect can work on only a single row of teeth.
How Does ClearCorrect Work?
ClearCorrect uses a sequence of clear aligners to realign teeth into a better bite while being virtually invisible and involving practically no dietary restrictions. The process begins by creating a 3D map of the patient’s teeth and using it to manufacture unique aligners. The patient wears each set for about two weeks before moving on to the next, with each set moving the teeth into slightly better alignment. These clear aligners must be worn for twenty-two hours a day and removed for meals and hygiene, which differs from the traditional braces process.
How Can ClearCorrect Treat a Single Arch?
Most ClearCorrect treatments have the patient wearing clear aligners over both the top and the bottom teeth, allowing the two rows to be realigned together. When wearing aligners on only a single arch, the position of the other arch will determine the whole course of treatment. Otherwise, the treatment works the same as when both arches are being treated.
Treating a single arch with ClearCorrect is best for minor alignment issues such as small gaps, slight crookedness or misalignment, or relapse following previous orthodontic treatments. If the patient wears their aligners as directed, treatments can usually be completed in as few as four to six months but may last as long as a year or more in some cases.
What Are the Risks of Treating a Single Arch with ClearCorrect?
There is an incredibly precise relationship between the upper and lower arches of teeth, and orthodontic treatments can change the points of contact between them. This can lead to tooth wear, toothaches, and TMJ pain if treatment is not performed correctly. This is why it is crucial that your ClearCorrect treatment be monitored by a licensed professional. Luckily, single-arch ClearCorrect treatments usually focus on only the front teeth, resulting in a relatively simple process when compared to extensively realigning the whole row.
Consulting with your orthodontist can help determine the best way for your teeth to be realigned. Whether it takes a few months or two years, ClearCorrect can help you achieve a smile that you can be proud of for life.
